A giant panda cub has been born in China after being conceived using a frozen sperm at the Wolong National Nature Reserve. Scientists in China are hopeful that continued success with this method will help ensure the survival of this highly endangered animal. It means breeders will no longer have to rely on live sperm from the few surviving male pandas in China. Staff at the reserve say they have found ways to improve the effectiveness of the process.
The sperm was taken from a man when he was 23, 13 years ago.
