Ram Setu not part of Hinduism: Govt tells SC

Another round of fight between Hindu groups and the Central government may begin soon. The Centre on Tuesday told the Supreme Court the Ram Setu, which many Hindus believe was the bridge Lord Ram built to cross over to Lanka, was not an integral part of the religion. Hindu groups say Ram Setu is a place of worship and sacred to Hindus. The groups say the Sethusamudram shipping canal project would destroy the Setu.

SC posts hearing on Ram Setu project for April 29

SC had earlier asked parties opposing it to file their reply to the fresh affidavit filed by the Centre.
