Nanavati panel refuses to issue notice to Modi

In a major reprieve for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Nanavati-Mehta Commission refused to issue a notice to him to depose before the panel in the 2002 post-Godhra riots case. The two-member Commission, which is probing the Godhra train carnage in 2002 and the riots in Gujarat that followed, has asked all officials and ministers in the Modi government to file affidavit regarding telephonic data during the riots.
